Karlobag

Karlobag is a small town located on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. It is situated in the northern part of the Dalmatian coast, between the towns of Senj and Gospić. The town is known for its beautiful beaches, clear waters, and proximity to the Velebit mountain range, which offers plenty of opportunities for hiking and outdoor activities. The town itself is relatively small and has a population of around 2,500 people. It is a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months when the weather is warm and the beaches are crowded with visitors.
Karlobag is a popular destination for motorcyclists, particularly because of its proximity to the Velebit mountain range, which offers challenging and scenic roads to ride on. Many motorcyclists visit the area to take on the winding roads and enjoy the beautiful coastal views. In terms of its history, Karlobag is one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic coast, with records of it dating back to the Roman period. The town played an important role in the defense of the region and was a major port during the Middle Ages.
During WWII, Karlobag was occupied by Italian and German forces and suffered significant damage, particularly to the old town. The Church of St. Mary, that you are mentioning was heavily damaged and never rebuilt, the ruins remains until now. This church was the most prominent one in Karlobag and was located in the center of the old town. There are also other historical building that was destroyed by the bombs, but were rebuilt in the post-war period, include the town hall and several houses. The town has since been rebuilt and has become a popular tourist destination.
Karlobag remains an interesting blend of history and modern tourism with excellent location, beautiful beaches, and the proximity of Velebit mountain range which offer great opportunities for outdoor activities.
