Cres

The picturesque Croatian island of Cres is nestled in the heart of the Kvarner gulf in the Adriatic Sea, between the mainland of Croatia and the larger island of Krk. Cres boasts a rich history dating back to the prehistoric era, with evidence of human presence on the island dating back to the Stone Age. During the Iron Age, Cres was home to a thriving Illyrian community, and it wasn't until the Roman occupation that the island came under direct control of Rome. This period of Roman rule saw significant development and wealth brought to the island, and Cres played an important role in the history of Croatia as one of the original seven Croatian provinces.
However, Cres was largely spared from battles during the two World Wars, allowing the island's landscape to remain largely untouched. This natural beauty attracts tourists from all over, who come to admire the soft, rounded hills and enjoy the island's culture, nature, and wildlife. The crystal blue waters around the island are perfect for swimming and water activities such as kayaking and sailing, and the towns of Malinska, Osor, and Beli offer breathtaking views, as well as traditional restaurants, cafes, and bars. There are also several villages, places, and beaches worth exploring, including the hidden gem of Lubenice.
In addition to its cultural and historical attractions, Cres is home to lush forests and meadows, offering the perfect setting for a peaceful hike or road trip. There are numerous trails and roads that showcase stunning views and local flora and fauna. Overall, Cres is a stunning Adriatic island that offers a diverse range of activities and attractions, including an interesting history, beautiful natural surroundings, and an abundance of outdoor pursuits.
