Krka vs Plitvice Quiz

Pick Plitvice for the bigger, more dramatic park if you have a full day, especially from Zagreb or Zadar. Pick Krka for an easier, shorter visit if you’re based near Split. Answer a few questions below for a recommendation matched to your trip.

Krka or Plitvice: the real difference

Plitvice is the bigger, more dramatic park: a full day of wooden walkways over turquoise lakes and waterfalls, and it genuinely needs 5 to 6 hours to see properly. Krka is the easier trip: a 2 to 3 hour loop built around one main waterfall, Skradinski Buk, that fits comfortably into a half day from Split.

Distance usually decides it. Krka is about an hour from Split. Plitvice is 2.5 to 3 hours from Split, but only around 2 hours from Zagreb or Zadar, so it fits a Zagreb-based trip far better than a Split-based one.

One thing worth knowing before you plan around either park: neither is really a swimming destination anymore. Plitvice has banned swimming everywhere since 2006. Krka banned it at Skradinski Buk, its main visited area, in 2021. Only three quiet spots (Roški Slap, Stinice and Pisak) still allow it, June to September, and almost no day-tripper reaches them.
