Sjeverni Velebit - National Park

Sjeverni Velebit National Park, located in the northernmost part of the Adriatic Sea in Croatia, is a must-see destination for nature lovers. This beautiful park stretches for about two hundred square kilometers and is home to the largest longitudinal stretch of karst topography in Croatia. It is also home to an abundance of diverse flora and fauna.
Sjeverni Velebit National Park is situated between the city of Senj to the north and Karlobag to the south, and sits at an altitude of between 500 and 1,500 meters. It was declared a national park in 1999 due to its rich and varied biological, geological, and hydrological features.
The park is characterized by mountains, valleys, and karst relief, and contains the highest peak in the park, Vaganski vrh, measuring 1,757 meters above sea level. The park also borders the towns of Primosten and Skradin to the east and is defined by the peaks of the Velebit mountain range to the south.
The climate in Sjeverni Velebit National Park is Mediterranean, with hot summers and cold winters, although the temperature often fluctuates between hot during the day and cold at night. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including wolves, birds of prey, bears, wild boars, and deer, as well as fish, amphibians, and reptiles. The park is also home to many different types of plants, including plums, cornflowers, various herbs, and many varieties of orchids.
Sjeverni Velebit National Park is home to some of Croatia's most stunning natural features, including Smedovac and Hajducki waterfalls, Ljusinac, Ostanj, and Troglav caves, Stinica bay, Zavrelje, and Vasilj forests. Visitors can appreciate these natural wonders through a variety of activities, such as trekking, rock climbing, biking, and boat tours.

.To protect and manage the park's resources, the Croatian government created the Lika-Senj County National Park Administration in 2004. This Administration is responsible for the protection and monitoring of the park's natural features and wildlife, and also provides access to the park for tourists and promotes activities like camping, fishing, and educational programs.
