Motovun

Motovun, a small yet majestic town located in Istria, Croatia, is nestled 700 meters above sea level and offers stunning views of the Motovun forest, coastline, and Mirna river valley. Its strategic location has made it an important cultural and economic center in the region. The town is divided into three parts: the old Venetian fortress at the summit of the hill, the upper town, and the lower town, located 30 meters below. The old Venetian fortress, built in the 13th century, features the Baroque Church of St. Stepan, the city clock tower, and St. Mary's Church, with its 16th-century rosewood-carved altars. The upper and lower towns are a mix of Gothic and Renaissance structures, including the local parish church.
Surrounding the town are vast open fields and vineyards, which benefit from the town's pleasant climate, ideal for growing grapevines. The wine cellars in the western part of Motovun are known for producing high-quality wines. In addition to its beautiful scenery, Motovun offers a range of outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, and horseback riding through the Motovun forest, with its breathtaking views of the valley and coastline.
One of the town's major attractions is its famous film festival, held in late July and August. During this time, the ancient walls of Motovun come alive with arts exhibitions and music concerts, drawing locals and tourists alike for days of celebration and entertainment. Motovun is truly a beautiful, historic town that should not be missed by travelers. With its wonderful atmosphere and awe-inspiring views, it is the perfect place to relax and soak up the spirit of this small yet enchanting town.
