Zrmanja

The crystal clear waters of the stunning river Zrmanja flow through the breathtaking Croatian countryside, offering an array of activities for nature lovers and adventurers. The journey begins in the eastern region of Plješivica, where the river courses through forests and fields, creating stunning canyons and vistas. One must-see attraction is the Velik preslap waterfall, a 20-meter high cascade with a thunderous roar.
Continuing its 120-kilometer journey towards the Adriatic Sea, the Zrmanja provides an exhilarating experience for those interested in canoeing or white-water rafting. The gentle slope of Obruče is perfect for less experienced paddlers, while the steep canyon of Etno offers an adrenaline-pumping ride for the more experienced.
In addition to its thrilling water sports, the Zrmanja is also renowned for its picturesque fishing spots. Its pristine waters are home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, making it a popular destination for sport fishing and catching trout, bleak, and barbel. Its clear currents and shallow edge also make it an ideal location for fly-fishing beginners. Even seasoned fishermen will be treated to an unforgettable experience at the Zrmanja's turquoise waters and surrounding wildlife.
The Zrmanja has played a significant role in history, having witnessed several important events over the years. In 2019, the river commemorated the 800th anniversary of the Battle of the Seven Rivers, in which local rebels attempted to fight off foreign intervention on a bridge built across the Zrmanja.
For those seeking relaxation, the Zrmanja is an excellent private getaway. Its serene beaches offer the peacefulness of unspoiled nature and plenty of room for camping, bonfires, and quiet moments alone or with company.
