Lonjsko polje - Nature Park

Located in Croatia, Lonjsko Polje Nature Park is a 120 km2 oasis of diverse habitats, including wetlands, forests, meadows, and croplands. Established in 2007, this nature reserve is dedicated to preserving the beauty and ecological integrity of the Kopacki rit area, home to some of the most diverse bird species in the country. In this area, visitors can find 300 species of birds, including the rare Nile/Red Crested Pochard, as well as 40 varieties of fish, 15 species of large mammals, and numerous aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates such as freshwater crayfish. The park's landscape includes a variety of habitats, including marshes, bogs, alderflower woods, meadows, pastures, and small ponds.
In addition to its unique scenery, the park is home to a variety of plant and animal species, including wildflowers, butterflies, and dragonflies in the summer months, and a variety of birds in the alderflower woods. The marshes and bogs provide habitat for amphibians and other aquatic species, while the Kopacki rit wetlands are home to the rare, endangered European mayfly, commonly referred to as the "Queen of Dragons." The surrounding area is full of shrubs and trees, providing habitat for herons, egrets, bitterns, and other water fowl.
The park offers numerous recreational activities for visitors, including birdwatching from one of the ten observation towers, canoeing and kayaking to explore the ecologically rich Kopacki rit, and two trails for visitors to take on foot. In addition to promoting conservation, scientific research, and environmental awareness, the Lonsko Polje Nature Park is a gem of Croatia, offering visitors the opportunity to appreciate and explore the amazing biodiversity of nature in this unique location.
