Rab

The Croatian island of Rab is a top tourist destination, located in the Adriatic Sea. Nestled on the edge of the northern Adriatic, just northeast of Rijeka, Rab is part of the Kvarner Gulf and is easily accessible by ferry or plane from several countries, including Croatia and Italy. The island is a popular destination due to its breathtaking beauty, featuring lovely beaches complemented by stunning mountain ranges.
The town of Rab is steeped in medieval charm, with a mix of narrow cobblestone streets, charming churches, and Mediterranean architecture with red rooftops and quaint Romanesque fortifications. The town boasts several notable attractions, such as the four old city gates - Gradski Vrb Vrh, Suha Vrata, Kamplin Vrata, and Lopar Vrata. Rab is also renowned for its high bell towers, which were built in the 15th century and have been preserved as a symbol of the old town.

Rab throughout history

The main square of Rab is an attraction in itself, with plenty of interesting and entertaining events taking place there. The area is packed with cafes, hotels, restaurants, galleries, and shops that attract tourists. During the summer, the island of Rab hosts several festivals, including the Rab Summer Music Festival and the Rab Full Moon Party, providing an opportunity to enjoy music and have fun with the locals. Rab is famous for its many secluded beaches, perfect for those seeking a beach holiday without the crowds. There are various sunbathing spots and excellent places for swimming or water sports.
Throughout its history, the island of Rab has been under the control of various empires. It was first inhabited by the Illyrians, then the Romans, before the Venetian Empire and the Kingdom of Croatia took control. Later, it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia before becoming part of the Croatian nation. As a result, the island still has Roman, Venetian, and even Ancient Greek ruins.
The island of Rab and its main town are both excellent tourist destinations in Croatia, highly recommended for those looking for a unique beach holiday with cultural and historical attractions. This small island has a lot to offer, from historical sites to beautiful beaches and exciting festivals. If you're dreaming of a vacation, Rab has it all!
