Dalmatia - Split region

Split, the capital of Dalmatia in Croatia, is located along the Adriatic Coast and boasts a Mediterranean climate with hot summers, mild winters, and abundant sunshine. Nestled between the islands of Vis and Hvar, Split is the largest city in southeastern Croatia.

Historical Sites

Split is known for its maritime history and picturesque waterfront. The ancient city of Salona, founded by the Romans in the 4th century BC, is situated near present-day Split. The city also houses several Roman monuments, including the Diocletian Palace, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other historical sites in Split include the Cathedral of St. Domnius, built in the 7th century, and the 15th century Fortress of Klis.

Other beaches in Split include the Blue Flag certified Bene Beach, the pine-wooded Zlatini Rat beach, and the beautiful Znjan beach.

The nearby islands of Hvar and Vis provide an array of activities for visitors, including hiking, sailing, swimming, and beach lounging. There are also numerous possibilities for exploring the local culture, such as wine and olive oil tasting, exploring the old town, or visiting one of the many local markets.
